TFH Appalachia Welcomes Coalition Member—Jason Tartt with T&T Organics

Together for Hope Appalachia is happy to welcome to the coalition, T&T Organics in McDowell County, WV.  Jason Tartt is transforming his community and providing a model for others.

TFH Appalachia has been working with Jason Tartt, owner of T&T Organics, for some time now and they are a part of the Bridges for Hope partnership with CBF Virginia, Baptist General Association of Virginia, WMU of Virginia and Bluefield University, and other local partners. Jason is an agripreneur, who returned to his home community in McDowell County West Virginia to bring about economic development through mountain farming. Cohorts of locals work on his farm to learn organic mountain farming methods and business models such as high tunnels, rabbits, goats and poultry, fruit orchards, bee keeping, tapping maple syrup, and much more, and developing value added products to increase their income. Jason is currently working on a project with Amelia Bandy with Economic Development Greater East and Josh McGee with the Y’All Sauce Company (two TFH partners) to create a business to produce hot honey, which will provide local jobs at a living wage and provide a market for local honey and peppers. In July, Jason’s work will be the feature of an episode of CNN’s United Shades of America (https://www.cnn.com/shows/united-shades-of-america) and he has been the subject of a number of national publications including Yes! Magazine, “Black Farmers Are Rebuilding Agriculture in Coal Country” (https://www.yesmagazine.org/economy/2022/01/10/black-farmers-agriculture-appalachia).
