Health & Nutrition
Closing the gap between
rural communities and
basic care.
Immediate relief, and the policy change that would do the most good at once.
Relief now, and the system underneath
Health & Nutrition work spans immediate relief and long-term policy change. Together for Hope partners provide direct access to food and health care while also pushing for the systemic fix that would do the most good at once: Medicaid expansion across the Southeastern states we serve.
On the Ground
Where the work is happening
- Together for Hope is advocating for Medicaid Expansion in Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida. In Mississippi alone, expansion would extend access to affordable healthcare to an estimated 160,000 people.
- In the Black Belt, a Medicaid Expansion Luncheon hosted with the University of West Alabama brought together faculty, students, and community leaders for a screening and panel discussion on closing the coverage gap.
- BirthWell Partners, a group of doulas serving under-resourced communities, has joined the coalition to expand maternal health support.
- CHOICE Uniontown in Perry County, Alabama, is expanding services by adding a weekly mobile pregnancy testing unit and increasing its foster family training program from 2 to 13 participants.
- In Appalachia, TFH is working alongside Bread for the World to advocate for SNAP and WIC, two federal nutrition programs rural families depend on.
