Housing & Environment

Safe homes, repaired & built
by the communities who need them

New construction, disaster recovery, home repair — and the land access underneath all of it.

Build, repair, rebuild

Housing is one of the strongest and most active priorities across the coalition, spanning new construction, disaster recovery, home repair, and the land access that makes any of it possible.

Where the work is happening

  • Extreme Build, a partnership with CBF Kentucky, has completed 19 homes for families in McCreary County, one of the original 20 counties TFH was founded to serve.
  • Partnership Housing in Owsley County, Kentucky, has secured $7.1 million in funding to build and rehabilitate homes after two consecutive years of historic flooding.
  • Building Hope Weekend mobilized 120 volunteers across Alabama and South Carolina in a single weekend, completing five home repairs and six wheelchair ramps for homeowners who needed them most.
  • Sowing Seeds of Hope in Perry County, Alabama, has helped 20 families achieve homeownership through the USDA’s Self-Help Housing program.
  • A new partnership with the Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta is connecting Black Belt housing organizations to major disaster recovery and repair funding.
  • In West Virginia, EDGE is working to secure land access for families and small producers, the resource organizers there call the single biggest barrier to building anything else, from housing to farms to local business.
  • After Hurricane Helene, Appalachia Service Project broke ground on the first of at least 200 planned home rebuilds, backed by a $10 million grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission.
A DELTA INITIATIVE

Together We Build

Together We Build brings coalition members, local partners, and volunteers together to build quality, affordable homes for families in the Delta region. In partnership with the Fuller Center for Housing, volunteers work side by side over four weekends to turn the dream of homeownership into reality. Together, we are building stronger rural communities, one family, one block, one square foot at a time.
