Together for Hope Appalachia is proud to call the Emma Quire Mission Center a partner and member of the coalition. The Emma Quire Mission Center has been involved with Together for Hope from the beginning. The Cooperative Baptist Fellowship launched the Rural Poverty Initiative, focused on the 20 poorest counties in the U.S. When Emma Quire, a Women’s Missionary leader at First Baptist Church, Frankfort, learned that two of those counties were in Kentucky, she lead the church to visit Owsley County. Connections were made in the community and soon an old motel, was purchased and turned into a Mission Center, named for Emma Quire. Since 2003, the Center has been impacting the community and hosting numerous mission teams working in the area. Linda Witt, an Owsley County native, serves as director. Michelle Carrol, Associate Pastor of Missions at FBC Frankfort, leads the church’s engagement with the mission. This past Spring, when flooding devastated the area, Linda was instrumental in bringing community leaders together to respond. At least 16 homes have been restored.
